Black Midi
30 June 2022
Credit to Stefan Ristea on YouTube One of the most interesting bmbmbm performances, I think all the members do vocals at some point and they all switch instruments throughout the show. Shank takes over vocals. Greep winds up on drums and morgan on vocals. Then shank takes over bass and Cam does vocals. Crazy. Cam says it's the only encore they'll ever do at the end. Description: Live in Bucharest, Romania at Club Control. 30th of June 2022 The band delayed their set for about 2 hours due to flight issues, but Geordie, Cameron & Seth (Worm) hyped the crowd up with an improv DJ set while waiting for Morgan to arrive in Bucharest with the instruments. Ded Sheeran was played at one point. Concert setlist: 01. 953 02. Speedway 03. Sugar/Tzu 04. Welcome to Hell 05. Lumps 06. Dethroned 07.Chondromalacia Patella 08. Near DT, MI 09. John L 10. Slow 11. bmbmbm (with fragments of Iron Man and Give It Away and at some point Geordie and Morgan swapped instruments, the first went on drums and the second on vocals) A truly great show.

Prepared using two audience recordings of the full show that I mixed together to sound more full. One was taken from a guy's Apple Watch (capturing mostly treble) and the other from a channel on here uploading footage from a mezzanine behind the stage (capturing mostly bass) so the two complimented each other a lot. Unfortunately, track 7 ("Cua Cua Ra, Cua Cua") was only available from the Apple Watch recording, so it sounds a bit rougher than the others. This band's energy was absolutely electric, I can't really blame the crowd for being a bit rowdy. Fortunately it wasn't nearly as bad as the many horror stories I've heard from black midi crowds. My personal highlight is the jam they did centered around Parabola and Motorbike. Some truly EVIL stuff going on. Unfortunately the main thing that held the experience back for me was the sound of the venue. I don't know if this is a thing with Geordie's sound crew or the acoustics of the venue, but everything was super muddy and kinda harsh especially at the start. I can only imagine the kinda damage people around me without earplugs suffered. This matrix of my recording along with another excellent source recorded by the soundboard still manages to be fairly listenable, but you can only do so much when it sounded so poor in person. More importantly, with this second source, the show is now fully recorded (on my source there were a few minor cuts due to technical issues and the energetic audience members around me).
